Primary Source Analysis
This cartoon is an anti-Jackson cartoon. It is criticizing Jackson for having vetoed so many bills. The artist even goes to extreme lengths to accuse him of turning himself into a king, because he has so much power. The caption King Andrew The First, really puts emphasis on how anti-Jackson this is.
This cartoon on the other hand, is pro-Jackson. It sows Jackson slaying the many headed monster. But the heads are human heads. This "monster" in fact is a metaphor for the National Bank, which Jackson shut down at the beginning of his presidency. The person assisting him is Martin Van Buren.(you can tell from the haircut) At the time, Van Buren was Jackson's vice president. This cartoon is so pro jackson, that the verb"slaying" is used. Not killing, or destroying, but slaying. Slaying is usually used in a very high honor way.
